What does the Blue icon on my iPad Status Bar mean?

I had this Blue icon appear on my IPad Pro 11 (M2) status bar, but I cannot find anywhere what it is related to. I was watching a YouTube broadcast at the time, if that matters. I did go away once I exited all apps, but this isn’t the first time it has appeared. If you click on it nothing happens. Does anyone know what this is, and what causes it to display?

The icon indicates that your iPad is synchronising with "something". Yours is one of many reports seen in recent weeks. At present, pending confirmation by Apple, this icon is believed to have some relationship to post-update synchronisation tasks performed by your iPad after updating to iPadOS 18.x.


Apple's documentation is often slow to catch-up with new features. Here is another status icon - that appears briefly when connecting some USB-C hubs - that Apple have yet to add to their documentation:
