iMac spinning in activation mode. Will this unlock my iMac?

Newer 24" iMac. My password got changed and the person who changed it does not remember the password. I went to recovery assistant and ended up in activation Lock Screen. The original password on this Mac was remembered. When I entered the correct password, the spinning icon came up. It has been spinning all night. Am I at a dead end with this? Or does it take a long time to retrieve the password and unlock account?

iMac 24″, macOS 15.2

How to remove Activation Lock

If the person who sold the computer has Not Removed this computer from their Apple Account 0 formerly Apple ID account )

You may not be able to Remove the Activation Lock

You best route is to communicate with them and tell they to Remove the Computer from their Apple Account
