Mac Mini (M4) loses wired keyboard and wired mouse connections upon sleep

I have a new Mac Mini M4 that I am using with a MacCally wired mechanical keyboard and wired mouse, whenever the system goes to sleep, it loses connection to the keyboard and mouse. To get it to come out of sleep mode, I have to unplug the keyboard and mouse and plug them back in to get the computer to respond to input so I can get it to wake up. Why do they loose power and then need to be unplugged and plugged back in to power them up?

This happens regardless of which USB ports they are connected.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Sleep is unnecessary on later Macs and should be disabled. Shut for long absences/idle overnights and for regular operation use the settings exactly as shown below: (reboot after setting):

Also, do not manual-sleep for brief absences; use instead the Lock Screen settings to switch the display off on timer:

Once set, you can also use Control-Command-Q to immediately lock your screen (instead of waiting for the display to switch off on timer).
