"Storage Saver Option for Apple Music Downloads"

"Hi,

I'd like to suggest adding a storage saver option to iCloud downloads in the Apple Music preferences. This option would allow users to download songs at 128kbps AAC, saving valuable storage space on devices with limited capacity.

This would be especially helpful for users with older iPods, like the iPod Classic, allowing them to store significantly more music. For example, a 160GB iPod Classic could potentially hold over 40,000 songs at 128kbps, compared to around 20,000 songs at 256kbps.

This should be an optional feature, giving users the choice to prioritize storage space or higher audio quality.

I do not believe that you can download Apple Music streaming subscription songs to an iPod classic.

If you are loading purchased music onto an iPod classic, from a Mac, using manual synchronization, I believe there already is an automatic "space-saver" option.

You can use Product Feedback - Apple to make suggestions to Apple. You should probably use the macOS option given there doesn't seem to be a specific route for the Apple Music app. With Apple making it possible to download high-res tracks for offline use, and having stopped selling 128k content well over fifteen years ago, I cannot see any real likelihood of them being interested in the idea. Storage is cheap. If you download all of your content to your computer then you can take advantage of the Convert higher bit rate songs... feature for populating your devices. If you don't have room for the content on your computer switch to streaming.

Thanks for the reply! I understand that feature for syncing music to older iPods. However, I'm suggesting a new feature within Apple Music that would allow users to choose to download songs at 128kbps AAC for offline listening, specifically to save storage space on their iPhones, iPads, or even iPod Classics. This would be separate from the existing option to download at 256kbps."
