What is the safest way to transfer music from an iPod?

Hello, I was wondering if anyone knew of a super safe way to transfer around 150gb of music from a really old iPod. My uncle passed away a few years ago and was a super huge music fanatic and left us his iPod with hundreds of songs on it. Unfortunately, the iPod is ancient and has next to no battery life or navigation capability but works when plugged in.

I want to transfer the music files to our iTunes account (we use a different one to what his was) but don't want to sync anything just yet at risk of losing it. Some advice would be much appreciated,

Only way it is to purchase touch copy or imazing to export data from the ipod to your pc/mac.
