Need recommendations. Major remodel adding security cams and video doorbells. Record locally? Poe cams?

Historical video view on off mode while at home It seems that if the home settings for camera recording is set to off, none of the detected or recorded footage from “while not at home” seem to be kept or viewable. is this the way it is or am i missing something?
