how to play bbc radio directly ithout using airplay

why isn’t it possible for the HomePod to stream BBC radio directly? Having to use airplay from the iPhone runs its battery down. It would be much better if the HomePod could play BBC radio directly, without having to stream it from an iPhone or other device via airplay.

HomePod mini doesn't work with Apple Music When asked to "turn on the music" HomePod mini answers that there are problems in the apple music app, so I can only use airplay.
