I needed to replace 4 batteries in my AirTags as I received the message that the batteries were low. I purchased Duracell batteries. Duracell puts a bitter coating on their 2032 batteries to discourage children from swallowing them. I did a Google search and found that the coating was not conductive and may not work in some devices. This was the problem with my 4 AirTags. I found that by using rubbing alcohol on a cloth or paper towel and rubbing the batteries then drying them, the coating can be removed. After doing this, my new batteries, that were about to be toss out, worked perfectly.
Apple tells us that we should use only C2032 batteries that do NOT have the bitterant coating as they may not function well with their AirTags.
