Accidentally Relabeled Album Title for 1,000+ Songs in My Apple Music Library

I was trying to organize songs by one artist in my Apple Music library. I must not have been paying attention, but I must have selected many more songs than I had intended...like 1,000 more songs. Ugh! What a nightmare!

It seems impossible to go through that artist's catalog and correctly label each and every song. There are album cuts, singles, bootlegs, live tracks, etc. I don't even know if I can figure out what is what.

I have iTunes Match and a subscription to Apple Music. By the time I realized what happened, the changes were made in the cloud, so there was no undoing what was done. I just looked in my Music folder and there is a previous library that is dated February of 2024. I opened that in Apple Music (with WiFi off so that it didn't update the cloud to that library) and everything is correct.

Is there any way to fix this without sorting through 1,000+ tracks? I am hoping there is some way to use the previous library from a year ago without just resorting to that library because that would not have all of the music I have added in the past year (plus playlists that were created in the past year).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Can you confirm that it is only album titles that need to be restored? I have a general solution for this sort of problem in Windows, which I've partially ported to Mac. If you post me your Feb 2024 .musiclibrary package I can extract a list of all of the track IDs in your library along with the correct album title, then send you a script that should be able to read in that data and apply it to your library. My email address is in my profile.

I'm assuming your library isn't being captured by Time Machine? If it were we could use a more recent snapshot of the library, but it will still need the script as Apple Music has what it thinks is the correct data now and any simple replacement of the old data will just get overwritten.
