Purchasing one or two songs or albums on rare occasions

I usually use iTunes to purchase one or two songs or albums every few months. Today, that option did not appear to be available to me without getting an Apple Music subscription. A pop-up for the subscription stopped me from even playing a track on my iMac.

I don't want or need a streaming subscription of any kind. I just want to buy a few specific items every few months. With all of the upgrades to my iPhone, iPad, and iMac, I can't seem to find a way to do this. Guidance / directions would be appreciated.

On your iMac, unless it's running macOS 10.15 Catalina or earlier, you would be using the Music app, not iTunes.

Did you recently update your Mac's operating system?

In the Music App, the iTunes Store option should be in the side bar.

If it's not there, go to Music ➜ Settings ➜ General ➜ Show and make sure iTunes Store is checked. Then you should be able to click on it and see music you can buy by clicking on the price of the album or track.

On the iPad and iPhone you just use the iTunes Store app directly to buy music and not the Music App.
