iPad logging out of websites after restart

This began about three weeks, and I’ve yet to be offered a solution - and I can’t find my previous posts about it on here!

On My iPad (mini, 5th generation) web-based have been logged out when I restart it.

WhatsApp, Newspapers sites - anything that’s not an app, but is linked to a website.

Previously WhatsApp sometimes timed out after a period of not using it, but not often, while everything else remained logged in.

This doesn’t happen to the same sites on my iPhone , only the iPad (although, obviously, WhatsApp is an app on there) so i don’t believe it to be connected to cookies.

I contacted Apple support about this, but they were unable to find a solution.

Further investigation proves that the problem is with Safari,

I’ve logged into all the sites using Chrome, and they don’t log out from that (WhatsApp even has a ‘don’t sign out’ checkbox that doesn’t appear when using it on Safari.

Every time I turn off Safari, either when logging out or just closing it down, it logs everything out - which it didn’t do before 3 weeks ago.
