How can I resolve iCloud Family Sharing errors?

I have recently sent an invite to my wife to join the family group I’d previously successfully created for myself and my kids. When we click the link to join the family group on her devices - iPad and MBP, an error is presented. The message indicates that she’s already in a family group. We’ve reviewed the settings related to family sharing on her devices, as per various Apple support docs and community posts. However, there’s no indication that she’s established her own, or joined another, “family”; based on the details provided in each devices’ settings. Both MBP and iPad only present option to setup family sharing. Selection this result in the same error message as before. There’s no apparent way to leave or disband this family either.


Up to date T&Cs seems to be one prerequisite for family sharing to work, which is up to date. Also, both these devices are signed into her own AppleID. Neither device has been associated with my AppleID.


Any suggestions?

We were able to resolve the issue. Although there was no evidence of family sharing being active on either the iPad or MBP, once we logged into account.apple.com directly, there was an option under family sharing to disconnect current shared items. It didn’t say what it related to, only the option to disconnect. After disconnecting the shared resource, we were able to activate user on the family share via the links received.
