Best MacBook for music recording studio

What will be the optimal system will depend on a lot of variables that we at this point don't know the answers to, including but not limited to whether he'll want to record external instruments or voices, how complex his music will be, what the intended use of the resulting recording will be, and other such questions. Also will he really need portability, and if so for what purpose?

So I would recommend that you or he start by determining what software he is going to want to run and what external peripherals, such as MIDI or audio input/out boxes, he'll want to use. Then see what the developer(s) of that software and hardware recommends in terms of a system configuration.
