Refund for unused subscription

I have been charged for a subscription that has never been used. As the description on my bank account says payment is for Apple I did not realise until now that I have been erroneously charged for a subscription which I have never used.

iPhone 14, iOS 18

Ok then, the first step if you have not done it is to cancel the subscription.

Then request the refund. If denied at first you will get another opportunity to appeal. Be aware in most cases, all transactions in the App Store are final, but at times Apple may provide a compassionate refund. It should never be expected and subscriptions are less likely to see a refund, but it is possible.

If your second request has been denied, you will see a response that it is Apple's final decision. You do have one last chance as seen here:

That really is all that can be done. Be aware that any free trial will become a subscription if not cancelled at least 24 hours before the trial period ends. It does say that when authorizing the free trial along with the subscription price if not cancelled, but is often overlooked. I do hope you get a resolution.

Thank you for your reply. I did not explain myself properly- I actually don’t recognise this app and did not intentionally subscribe to it. It looks like a scam to be honest. I have been unknowingly charged for almost 6 weeks thinking that I was being charged for Apple TV or similar. Paying €8.99 is almost €500 per annum and I would never have subscribed to it if I had known there were weekly charges of this amount . I would like a refund please.

What is the name of the app?

Is the app in your purchase history?

If you see the app in your Purchase History, then the download required double clicking the side button, followed by verification with Face ID or Passcode, so that is not something that can be done by accident and if it was not done by you, it was done by someone that know your Passcode with physical access to your iPhone.

If you used a free trial, then as always those will become a subscription if not cancelled at least 24 hours before the trial period ends. Those also require the same authorization/verification as any other purchase.

The most important part is determining how this would have happened as you said you do not recognize the app and would not have made a subscription, yet don't seem concerned at all that it would mean your phone or payment method has been compromised and needs immediate attention to prevent any further or more costly charges. Are we missing something here?

Thank you- that’s an honest response! I don’t remember signing up for this but I must have inadvertently clicked on it thinking it was a free app but not realising it was going to charge me €8.99 a week! I wasn’t asked if I was happy to pay going forward… I’m a bit unwell at the moment- which isn’t any excuse- but I’m appealing to Apple as I would never willingly sign into an app that would cost almost €500 per year! The only person on my phone is me and I’m sorry for being a Luddite but I’m just trying to explain that this was a genuine mistake and I’m hoping Apple might help me.
