I guess Do Not Disturb can be used for that. Not that I thought spam filter was the idea behind it.
Group chats with random strangers is never my thing. Maybe I am just too old.
Facebook Messenger is better in this regard, except that I "pay" with my privacy. I don't get spam calls on Messenger.
Try using a focus on your MacBook, or for older versions, use do not disturb, located in the control/notification center.
