Inspired idea with the tape. It needs to be sticky though. I didn't think it would possibly work, but it worked a treat! Also worth noting the other advice, which is that you don't need to apply too much pressure as you turn it.

During our own “annual” battery change, the 1st tag (of 4) is always the “hardest” to open as I have to “re-learn” the technique …
… the remaining three tags always open right up.
