HomePod not recognizing my voice or my wife’s voice consistently

We have multiple HomePods in the house, they are not recognizing my voice or my wife’s voice consistently for personal requests.


They are all up to date, we have tried every suggested option and many permutations of them including resets. The steps that do not work are :


  1. "Reset Recognize My Voice: In the Home app, tap Home  in the upper-left corner, then tap Home Settings. Tap your name under People, then turn Recognize My Voice off then on. Wait a few minutes before trying Siri again. 
  2. Restart the iPhoneiPad, or iPod touch that you use with "Hey Siri."
  3. Restart your HomePod mini or HomePod.
  4. Set up "Hey Siri" again: On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, go to Settings > Siri & Search, then turn Listen for "Hey Siri" off then on, and follow onscreen instructions to teach Siri your voice. 
  5. On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, go to Settings > Siri & Search, and make sure that it's set to the same language as your HomePod. 



so I hope that those aren’t suggested again.


we just want/need this functionality to work properly.

I’ve been pulling my hair out over this for a long time, weeks and months have gone by.


I believe I’ve solved it, by moving my Apple TV 4K downstairs and > connecting it via Ethernet,


Inside Home App

> home settings > home hubs and bridges >

turning off automatic

> assigning Apple TV 4K as primary home hub



Apple TV 4K settings >

HomeKit and siri >

> turning on the personal requests


Within the Home App,

personal requests do not show the Apple TVs in the house, so perhaps the individual settings of the Apple TVs were disrupting this functionality.


The world may never know, but at least today I can add things to a shopping list while standing in the kitchen.
