Acer monitor connected to mac mini 1, and screen keeps flashing

I had a Mac mini 1 which I disconnected as I've now got a MacBook Air. However I wanted to check it was still working with the screen I used: an Acer lcd, model HA240Y version Awi.

i connected the screen to the ma mini with the hdmi cable, and plugged both into a power socket. The MacMini lit up and dinged, but the screen just keeps flashing on and off.

Try a better HDMI cable. I had the same problem, albeit with a different Apple device, and getting a higher-spec cable fixed the problem.
