For the second time in a few weeks, my iMac didn't connect with my mouse. Yes, the battery was sufficiently charged. I had to turn off the computer, plug in the mouse, and start again. Could this be a software problem?

What exact model is your mouse? Is your iMac still running macOS 13.7 (Ventura) as per your tagline?
Spoke w Apple Tech support and for now, the problem is fixed.
