Erasing data on old iPhone after transferring to new iPhone

Skipping backup shouldn’t have any impact if you’ve already transferred your old phone completely to the new one. I actually do not know why I would skip backup, yet, it will only delete all data from your old iPhone. Your iCloud Photos generally should not be affected if you’re not deleting iCloud Photos. Just make sure everything’s transferred (and online as so).

so, no, the iCloud Photos will not be erased if they are actually uploaded onto iCloud. Yes, they will be deleted off your phone, yet that’s just a local copy. Anyways, as Chattanoogan suggested, you should probably wait for some time to make sure all data is loaded into iCloud.

I’d suggest not YET erasing the old phone. (i.e. don’t rush)

Use your new phone for a week or so; making sure that “everything moved” as you intended.

To be clear …

Apple’s device “migration” process is really more of a “copying / duplication” process.

You’ll end up w/ two virtually identical phones (although only one will retain an an active SIM).

You can then erase the “old” phone - carefully following the linked procedure — in the order written — at a convenient time of your choosing.
