Why is my MacBook Pro running Big Sur freezing with a 2TB SSD?

My MBP 10.1 / i7, 16GB, SSD 750 GB Running Big Sur.

This laptop can't handle a big SSD.

I have a 2T External SSD but the machine freezes every so often when trying to save files to the 2T SSD.

I further have a 1TB external SSD and that works well.

The Airport disk is also 2 TB and gives the same issue slow handling and stopping.

Can anyone advise pls?

Hi! You can try some of these steps to troubleshoot the problem:

  1. Restart your Mac (click the Apple menu > Restart)
  2. Ensure your Mac is on its latest supported version of macOS (click the Apple menu > System Preferences > Software Update)
  3. Run diagnostics on your Mac: Use Apple Diagnostics on your Mac - Apple Support

If none of these fix the issue, it may be that the external SSD and AirPort is not compatible with your Mac. You should double check with the manufacturers to ensure that it works with your Mac.
