On an iPhone, the Recents section of the emoji keyboard works as follows:
- Adding an Emoji to Recents: When you insert an emoji into a text field (e.g., a message, email, or note), it gets added to the Frequently Used section of the emoji keyboard.
- Mere Clicking Doesn't Add to Recents: Simply tapping or previewing an emoji without inserting it into a text field will not add it to the Recents section.
- The behavior of the Frequently Used Section: The section mixes recently and frequently used emojis. For example, if you frequently use the 👍 emoji, it will stay in the section even if you don't use it for a while, while emojis you use less often may cycle out.
Clearing the Frequently Used Section: If you ever want to reset or clear this section, you can do so by navigating to: Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Keyboard Dictionary. (Note: This will reset all learned words and suggestions, not just emojis.)
