Screen Time is tracking usage even while my iPhone 12 is turned off

Since some time now, my screen time shows grey bars for screen usage overnight, even though my phone‘s turned off overnight. I think that’s been happening since iOS 18, before that it was fine.

I wanted to ask if anyone found a solution to this.

For me it sometimes shows I‘ve been using WhatsApp for the whole night. Still haven‘t found a solution yet.

No, Screen Time tracking will not work when the iPhone is shut down. For Screen Time to function, the device needs to be powered on and actively used. It tracks usage, app activity, and other metrics while the device is running.

Since you have posted a cropped image I am unable to see the upper portion of the screen which usually has the device or devices.

It's not always the iOS update's fault!  Many things can cause phone problems.  If you tell people you think it's an iOS update, it might make it harder to fix or find a solution for the real issue.

Remember, the right question often leads to the solution!

iOS updates aim to enhance user experience, boost security, and fix bugs rather than disrupt core features. The majority of the issues after updates might stem from underlying, unmentioned factors. Updates won't typically alter personal data but may refine settings or features. Backup before major updates for safety. Review Apple's update details and backup advice for a smooth process.

Kindly consider checking your settings and addressing any device issues before attributing the issue to external factors. This could be a pure coincidence that the iOS update affected the iPhone functions.

Before initiating a standard iOS update, it's advisable to create a backup. Have you completed this step? If yes, proceed with the restoration from the backup.

Thank you for your reply! My phone‘s the only the device shown in the screen time usage, none of my other devices screen times are included there. I know it‘s not always the iOS update, I just can’t figure what else it might be. It just randomly started showing screen time when my phone’s off. Of course screen time just works when the phone‘s on, but before it didn‘t show any usage when it‘s turned off.

Respectfully, this is simply untrue. I turned my phone off last night around 9pm, and it was plugged in and charging but powered off until 7:45am today. When I turned it on it showed I had 7h 45m of screen time. How could this be the case if what you said is true? You can see in the attached photo that my most used app has only 2m of use today, but that there’s full gray (indicating screen time happening) the entire hour for each hour that my phone was turned off.
