Accidentally Deleting Notes Information in Apple Contacts

Is there a read only feature for Apple Contracts (I know there isn't, but I'm putting this out here)? I am surely not the only person who goes to copy information (e.g., login, or address info) from a contact and it accidentally deletes the information (backspace or other). There is no "Go Back" or Undo feature in Contacts, so the info is gone. For this reason, I often double paste info in Notes so there is a backup.

But this is stupid. Why isn't there a protection system built in to Contacts? It is the only app (that I know of) that works well on a Mac.

Thoughts?
