Apple subscription refund denial issue

As far as I can discern, if you accidentally sign up for an Apple subscription, for example while using your iPhone as a remote, and realizing the error you immediately cancel the subscription, Apple then conveniently does not allow you to request a refund. The method they use for this is that when you use the link, the page you go to will not show any subscription, and therefore you can not request a refund. After attempting to resolve this with the Golden Slacks credit card support team, I was forced pay $9.99 for the subscription I had erroneously signed up for, and then of course had to cancel the credit card in order to avoid this happening again. Apple is happy though because they got my money, and they know most people would never cancel a card over such a small theft.

If you subscribe to something it gets charged immediately. You need to then cancel the subscription and ask for a refund. I guess this could all require more than 2.5 seconds to go through but I haven't heard about any problems of the kind you are mentioning.

Confirm you have canceled any subscription automatic renewal (if you simply delete an app this does not cancel subscriptions):

Review the information in this support article by clicking on the link to learn how to cancel a subscription from Apple. ➔ If you want to cancel a subscription from Apple - Apple Support

If you subscribed to this directly with a third party, see: About purchases not billed through the App Store or the App Store’s In-App Purchase system - Apple Support instead. You need to work directly with the vendor, not Apple.

Notes:

• "If you signed up for a free or discounted trial subscription and you don't want to renew it, cancel it at least 24 hours before the trial ends." Note that by using an app like this you are automatically agreeing to this happening, are responsible for reading if this will happen, and canceling the subscription before the trial ends.

• Deleting an app does not cancel a subscription.

• An existing subscription will normally continue until the end of its term and may then renew automatically. Stopping automatic renewal is effectively canceling it. "If you don’t see Cancel Subscription, then the subscription is already canceled and won't renew." The "Expires" date means the current subscription will just run until then. Note special conditions for some countries: About canceling subscriptions in Germany, Israel, South Africa, or Türkiye - Apple Support

• Read the article to see what to do about subscriptions that do not appear in your list. If you still can't find a subscription, contact Apple Support using the link at the end of the support article.

• Canceling a subscription does not automatically start a refund.

As far as I can tell, the correct order of steps in the process to follow would be to first request a refund, and only after having successfully done so, then cancel the subscription within 30 days to avoid recurring charges. Otherwise if your first step is to cancel the subscription, then there is no longer an existing subscription showing to request a refund for.

Apple and Goldman Sachs were ordered to pay over $89 million by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) for mishandling the Apple Card. The CFPB found that:Goldman misled consumers about some refund applications. The Apple Card's future in now in doubt, as Goldman Sachs wants to end its relationship with Apple. I kind of wondered why, when I told Goldman Sachs to cancel my card, they did not refer my call to their retention department. I was cancelling the card over Goldman Sachs/Apple Inc.'s combined poor refund policy and at issue was a charge of $9.99. A disputed charge of this size would normally be waived by any credit card company trying to keep a customer from cancelling. But they did not try, and now I have found out why...it's over between them and Apple. I can see why.
