Why does my iPhone crash while watching YouTube?

When watching YouTube in 2160p resolution on an iPhone, if you switch to full screen mode and quickly zoom in, the device may crash. This issue appears to be related to the processing load required to handle high-resolution video playback while dynamically adjusting the zoom. Users have reported that the screen freezes or the app force closes, sometimes even causing the iPhone to restart.

This problem can be frustrating, especially for users who frequently watch high-quality videos. It is important for Apple to address this issue in future iOS updates to ensure smoother performance and better stability when handling high-resolution content. Keeping the device software and the YouTube app updated may help reduce the chances of encountering this bug, but a permanent fix from Apple is needed.

It’s been happening for weeks especially with landscape mode. The phone reboots. Catastrophic crash. 2024 and now 2025 have got me concerned with all Apple products. Especially with the online Apple Support. Lotsa sketchy advice and zero accountability. Apple has changed in the 21st century. The all important client with the loyalty is slowly being turned into an incident report number.

Dealing with YouTube is as helpful as dealing with Siri. You never get a human until you’ve four factor authenticated address, driver’s license, previous address, billing address and of you have a public persona they’d like to know. Then you get 12 bots and possibly a human after a few days. Many people have crashing issue with zoom in landscape on older phones and it was fine til the Apple update. I just avoid it. Dealing with YouTube and even Apple these days is tedious
