You use some confusing mixed terms. Is the issue actually activation lock, and was it your password that your forgot., or was it your passcode? There is an important difference in all this. The previous post is not actually saying anything to help you with activation lock if that is the issue you are having. If you forgot your password and the issue really is activation lock then all you need to do is reset your password and you can then sign into the device and all your data will be there.
There's a difference between between a passCODE which is a four or six digit code used to unlock a mobile device after you turn it on (or other services on a mobile device), and a passWORD which is what is used to log into your Apple ID account which may be required in resetting a forgotten passCODE. I am not clear as to which you are referring.
