Why is the timer/alarm volume so low on my iPhone?

I’ve tried everything - physical volume buttons higher, slider bar in app settings is fully up, software up to date, restarted phone etc. the volume is loud on the “first” sound (using default radial tone) then dims to a level so low you can barely hear it (bad for alarm clock). Any help?

If you are looking at the phone it will reduce the volume because it knows you have “seen” it. If you don’t like the way this works go to Settings/Face ID & Passcode and turn off Attention Aware Features.
