1st Gen Airport Extreme as Extender for Vivo (Brazilian service provider).

Subscribed to Vivo (Brazil) for fiber optics, that provide their own modem/router/voip phone equipment. Have ethernet to office, wanting to use Airport Extreme (1st Gen) to form continuous wireless network to enable communication of Amazon equipment (Echo, doorbell, Dot, etc).


Vivo equipment does NOT allow for bridge mode from primary router without sacrificing the land phone line.


Can I create a wireless network with this equipment? (I have the airport extreme broadcasting its own wifi network, but need clients in different zones to be able to communicate.)


Any suggestions? (I'm not hugely tech savy, but can usually figure things out if pointed in the right direction. But I'm running into dead ends on this one!)

In order for this to have a chance of working, the AirPort Extreme will need to connect back to the primary router using a permanent wired Ethernet cable connection. If I understand your post correctly, you could connect the AirPort Extreme to the ethernet wiring in the office.


In other words, the AirPort Extreme will not be able to connect to the primary router using only a Wi-Fi connection.


It is the AirPort Extreme that must be configured to operate in Bridge Mode.....not the primary router.


The next requirement for a possible setup would have the firmware on the AirPort Extreme updated far enough to allow a current version of AirPort Utility 6.3 to communicate to the AirPort for setup. Older firmware on the AirPort Extreme would not work with AirPort Utility, but it might work with an older AirPort Utility version installed on a PC.


It is going to be somewhat of a trial and error process to get things working, if you decide to proceed. Will you be using a Mac to set up the AirPort Extreme?
