Merge two iTunes libraries on Windows (not Mac) laptops.

Hi, I need to merge to iTunes libraries from my old Windows 7 laptop onto my (slightly) newer Windows 10 laptop - it's actually a bit new than that, but I'm NOT, so I'm still running Windows 10. The instructions I see as responses to the merge 2 iTunes libraries question seem to be from only Mac users, which I am not. Has anyone performed this task on non-Mac laptops/computers? and if so, are you able to help? many thanks in anticipation.

Use iTunes. Do not install Apple Music for Windows.

  1. See Move your iTunes library to a new computer - Apple Community.
  2. Move both libraries to the new computer. Check that they work correctly.
  3. Choose the larger library, or the one that is already in the standard location, or your preferred location, to be the main library. Open the other library and export as an XML file with File > Library > Export Library...
  4. Switch back to the main library and use Edit > Preferences > Advanced to turn off the Copy Files... option.
  5. Use File > Library > Import Playlist... to import the XML file.
  6. See Duplicate songs in iTunes - Apple Community to remove any duplicates that were in both libraries.
  7. Consolidate the library with File > Library > Organize Library > Consolidate Files.
  8. Use Edit > Preferences > Advanced to turn on the Copy Files... option.
  9. Enjoy the music.
