Magic Mouse not recognizing scrolling or gestures and missing magic mouse settings

I bought myself a Magic Mouse 2, and when I connect it to my Mac, the right and left clicks work fine. However, all other gestures like tapping, swiping, and scrolling don’t work at all and the gestures option does not show either.

There was a thread about it here before, but it didn’t find a solution: magic mouse software not installed - Apple Community

When I open the system settings and go to the mouse settings, the typical Magic Mouse view is missing, and you only have the standard settings available for any mouse, and this happens not only on one of my Macs, but on two.

One is on a MacBook Pro Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015 with MacOS Monterey 12.7.6

and the other is on a MacBook Air, 13-inch, Early 2015 with MacOS Monterey 12.7.4.

Resetting the bluetooth module, repairing and charging didn’t work. Didn't scroll on my iPad either.

Can someone help me?

Returned the apple mouse usbc to Amazon and obtained a refund. Borrowed an apple mouse lightning port and they both work fine with my Macbook Pro 2015. Apparently, the firmware, OS or both is to blame. Moral of the story - the older model is more compatible than the newer version - and also cheaper as Apple don't make it anymore! Apple shooting themselves in the foot on this one - especially as the device does not have any new features apart from the port.

Hi,

Unfortunately, you fell into the same mess as every other person who thought that the new mouse from Apple differs only in the type of port.

An added bonus that no one knew was that this new mouse only works with the latest version of Sequoia MacOS. You have (like I do, because I use Monterey) a very expensive paperweight. Yes, it's absurd, but it is what it is.

I haven't found any mention of fixes for older systems anywhere. In my opinion, this is not going to happen.
