Would someone run a test with a Mac Mini 2018 for me please?

I am trying to get my recently bought used Mac Mini 2018 (Intel CPU, 8 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD) running to start from an USB stick (e.g. for Linux dual boot e.g., running Linux MINT, Ubuntu or UNRAID.

On a 2012 Macbook this is possible without any issue for me.

As not even a Linux MINT live USB stick is booting after pressing the "Alt" key at start and choosing the EFI drive, it would be great if someone could do me the favor to test starting a live system like Linux MINT (xfce edition is sufficient) on another Mac Mini from 2018 running Sequoia and report the result please.

Just to test, if there might be an hardware issue on my machine or if it is a general issue with this type of Mac Mini model.

Unfortunately I was not successful to get it running by myself yet.

I have changed the following settings inside the recovery console:

  • disabled csrutil via Terminal
  • enable boot from USB in startup security
  • set startup security to the lowest level

  • Additionally I even tried to install rEFInd boot manager, but this is not showing up at all during boot.

Many thanks in advance, and have a great holiday time!

Thanks for the information. which unfortunately brings me not really forward.

And my assumption was, that mentioning the following in my initial post:

  • disabled csrutil via Terminal
  • enable boot from USB in startup security
  • set startup security to the lowest level

indicated that I am aware of that the 2018 Mac Mini has the T2 chip inside 😉
