I have a Mac Mini with a Satechi dock with an SSD and all of a sudden I am getting the following error. I have been using it this way for the past two years.

The cable might be malfunctioning. Try another cable. If the issue persists it could be a hardware related issue like the port of the dock itself.

I agree that it could be a bad connection, a bad cable or that the dock's chip is failing.
Try a different port on the Mac mini, then a different cable.
