Connecting 2017 iMac as 2nd monitor to new M4 Mac mini

I was trying to connect my 2017 iMac running Ventura, as a 2nd monitor, to my new M4 Mac mini.

Then, I learned I won't be able to, because my 2017 iMac doesn't support Target Display Mode

I also connected them with a Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt cable which did nothing.

Can someone confirm that if I want to connect a 2nd monitor to my M4 Mac mini, I'll need some other monitor/display as my 2017 iMac is not going to work?

Target Display Mode has been dead for years and neither of those Mac's support it over a cable.

With limited results, you can use ScreenSharing or third-party software like LunaDisplay.

However, your best bet is to get and use a second after-market external display with the Mac mini.
