After tinkering for about 6 hours, I have ARD up and running again.
What I did:
Open this directory:
/Users/YOUR_USER_NAME_HERE/Library/Containers/com.apple.RemoteDesktop/Data/Library/Preferences/
Move this file from that directory to the Desktop.
com.apple.RemoteDesktop.plist
Start Remote Desktop. The app should start as if for the first time.
A new preferences-file will be created. Everything in Remote Desktop will be "blank".
You can either start fresh now (and delete the plist file on your Desktop) – or you want everything back as it had been before. Then you have to manually edit the plist file. This is very tedious work. You should be familiar with editing XML files. I tried to write a compressed tutorial, but doing it a second time, following along, it didn't work.
So here are just some hints, if you want to give it a try:
Duplicate your former working, saved plist file, so you have a reference.
From the old original file you need to remove the following objects completely:
ObjectList
ScannerLists
mainLists
selectedList
Quit ARD, edit and save plist file, start ARD and see if it crashes or not.
Then you need to copy/paste all ObjectList and ScannerLists items back in – one by one.
- ObjectList items that are NOT ScannerLists should work immediately.
- ObjectList items that ARE ScannerLists always have to be pasted in TOGETHER with the corresponding ScannerLists item.
- Also do not paste in a ScannerLists item WITHOUT the corresponding ObjectList item.
Quit ARD, edit and save plist file, start ARD and see if it crashes or not. Repeat.
Good luck!!!
