Books disappear when I disable cloud sync.

I recently had to clean up some space in my iCloud storage and accidentally turned on the Boos sync option.

I was unable to open any of my PDF documents, and eventually after many attempts I managed to get them to download.

Unfortunately when I try to turn off the Books Sync option all my PDF’s disappear, even after downloading them from the cloud.

Cannot turn off Books iCloud syncing. I use Books on my iMac to store PDFs and sync them to my iPad and iPhone. It annoys me every time there's a major OSX update iCloud syncing is automatically turned on. I have to go through the same routine of recovering all my PDFs off iCloud and turning it off to rebuilt my Books. However now I have found with Sonoma I am not able to turn off Books in my iMac's iCloud Drive settings. When I turn it off, close setting then reopen the setting is turned on again. Not only do I not want to pay for more iCloud storage, I have a lot of manuals in there, but I need some of these PDFs synced to my iPad since I do not always have a network connection. Any way to get my Books iCloud sync setting to turn off and stay off? Or an alternate way to sync and view PDFs without using iCloud.

Books keep deleting locally if icloud sync is on Hello, my problem is that if I have iCloud sync for books turned on my books after some time gets offloaded locally and stored only in iCloud, therefore when I'm traveling or going somewhere without internet access I can't read my books (terrible design choice btw). I have plenty of space in my iCloud and books are pretty much low-weight, I want to be able to access them anytime if I downloaded them once, why do they keep being offloaded? I read other threads about this issue but all of them has no solutions except turning off iCloud for books - what is this answer? I want my books to be accessible across multiple devices but I want to control whichever content is being deleted locally (like in other cloud solutions) Is there something I missing? If not, how to send complaint to apple for them to fix this hideous "smart" offloading.

Apple Books Keeps Deleting My Books How do I prevent the Books apps from deleting (moving to the cloud) copies of my books? This is extremely frustrating as I find myself on a plane or a boat or somewhere without Internet access and my books miraculously deleted. It's not a storage saving issue because my books take up less than a GB and I've got hundreds of GB of free space. I don't see an option in settings to prevent books from being deleted. Is there a workaround to this bug?
