I also have a ford sync 3 and CarPlay worked great Friday, upgraded Friday night, got in the car Saturday and would not even show CarPlay as an option I’ve tried everything for 2 days now and nothing.

got the same problem after installing 18.2. after trying everything possible with phone settings, found an unreleased thread with some suggestions and turning off VPN among them.. i use ProtonVPN which stays on all the time, and as soon as i turned it off CarPlay connected just fine!

i turned VPN back on and CarPlay stayed connected, HOWEVER.. Siri stopped responding to any requests, whether it's music, directions or anything for that matter..

which raises interesting Privacy Question: what is it that CarPlay is now trying to ping in 18.2 upgrade that Proton VPN blocks (mine blocks all trackers and ads)... 🤔🤔🤔

let me know if you find it helpful!

Cheers and happy holidays!

Same! I just updated to 18.2 and literally my CarPlay won’t recognize my phone. Tried to delete the update but it’s not in the top portion under general >settings> iPhone storage. It’s at the bottom half where it can’t be deleted. No vpn so how can I get my CarPlay back or get to a previous version of iOS?

Updated iPhone 16 to IOS 18.2 and F150 2018 CarPlay stopped working; Sync seems to not recognize when phone is connected via USB. Siri and phone functions all work. Tried all of the suggestions: cables, connectors, turn on/off, reload sync, reacquire phone/bluetooth/wifi connections. Everything worked beautifully until 18.2....

I am using an iPhone 12. I have religiously updated the software, and Car Play stopped working with 18.2; I am now on 18.2.1. Carplay does not work. I am using the same USB port and the same cord that I used previously, and that works for my wife.

NONE of the "fixes" work, except to force me to rejoin my home wifi and work wifi.

Also, not matter what I do, I can't get the emergency 911 setup either.

HELP!!

I had the same issue with my Sync3 after upgrading to iOs 18.2.1. Here below how got fixed.

Settings > Screen time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Allowed Apps & Features > toggle ON CarPlay option. After restarting the iPhone CarPlay got back to work.

Update: Knowing that my truck software had not changed and that the only real variable were cables and Iphone software I did two things:

1) bought a CarPlay bluetooth adapter from ULA-YUAN on Amazon for $36 and it works great for CarPlay Sync3, calls, messages and Waze.

2) took every cable I had (5) and tested each one in the truck (without the bluetooth adapter) and only 1 in 5 worked with CarPlay. Several had never been used before. Surprised. Maybe cable signal/noise requirements were changed in the software?

My take aways:

Adapter works and cables cannot be relied upon...

Alright so what you will need to do is check your privacy settings. after updating it toggles off by default. re-enable carplay and it should work again.

I don’t use any VPN just stock settings that came with the phone but after the update to 18.2 i found that carplay is turned off by default.
