iMovie import issue after moving Photos library to external HD

To free up space on my Mac I decided to move my Photos library to an external HD. I formatted the HD to APFS, and moved the ".photoslibrary" file to the HD, and then in Photos I selected "Use as System Photo Library". Now in iMovie, I can't find anyway to import video files from Photos; and in the Photos app, when I right click on the video file, and select "Edit with" from the drop menu, and then choose iMovie, I get this message, "The application 'iMovie' cannot open the specified document or URL."

Is there anyway to fix this or work around it? How can I find the actual video file so I can just drag it into iMovie? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,

I have never been able to get the "Edit With" feature in the Photos app to work. I get the same error message that you do.

To import video files into iMovie from your system Photos library, open and iMovie project and click on the My Media box above the browser screen, and then click on the Photos item in the left side bar. Then, in the browser pane, navigate to the video that you want to import into iMovie.

Another way is to do a File/Export 1 Video to your desktop from within the Photos app, and then drag the video from the desktop into the iMovie project timeline.
