Copy Music library from old to new Mac without iCloud/Sync
Hi - I am trying to copy my Music library from an old MBP to new MBP so that albums, play counts, etc. from 15+ years are preserved. I'd like to do this without using iCloud or Sync Library. So far, I've been unsuccessful.
Old MBP setup:
- All my music files are in the ~/Music folder
- the "Music Library.musiclibrary" is in the ~/Music/Music folder and is 1.9MB
Steps taken thus far on New MBP:
- I've copied all the music files to the new MBP's ~/Music folder
- I've replaced the "Music Library.musiclibrary" file on the new MBP (85KB) with the one from my old MBP above in the same location
- I hold down Option when opening the Music app, click "Choose Library", and select the "Music Library.musiclibrary" file I just copied over (1.9MB) to the new MBP's ~/Music/Music folder
As soon as I do this, the "Music Library.musiclibrary" file drops back to 85KB and the content in the Music app is just the handful of songs that are sitting in the cloud.
What am I doing wrong? Thanks!
