Can I revert to the Mail App after the iOS 18.2 update

Just updated to 18.2. The Mail App is terrible. I just want it to be how it was, I don’t know, the entire time I’ve been in the iOS ecosystem. You know, like 10+ years.

I have the same question. I absolutely hate the mail update. Who ever thought that was a good idea must really hate humanity.

What a silly response! Am I supposed to make time every day just in case Apple changes something with no warning. Don’t be daft!

But it’s OK for you to expect other users to make time every day because you didn’t bother to read the iOS update notes?

I've suggested to Apple on more than one occasion that threading and solution pinning and defaulting to posting order would help but nothing changes other than Apple's customers coming here and getting annoyed when they should be getting help.

Actually, message threading is a major point of discussion in the Lounge (where I hope to see you sooner rather than later); no one likes the sort default of rank, rather than oldest or newest. But fortunately, you can change the sort order in a thread, or globally in your forum preferences.

Thanks, Lawrence, that's interesting.

I doubt I'll ever make the lounge. The more time I spend here the more disheartened I get with it and I've already started to reduce my participation.

did not do a thing

What issue are you trying to solve? The classification system, which tapping the 3 dots lets you switch to the previous list view, or the contact icons next to emails in the list, which you disable in Settings/Apps/Mail?

Yes, they do work and it definitely can be done if you can follow instructions. That being said if you are so displeased with the Mail app in iOS 18 you might consider switching to any number of third party email clients There literally dozens to choose from.

Fair enough, but read the room here. These are clearly not the users who requested those changes. We're the users who depend on Mail to keep working the way it has. Messing with email is not like revamping a game. For a lot of us, our livelihoods depend on this thing retaining some consistency.

The new update is terrible at “categorizing” emails and the layout is awful. I hope whoever came up with this terrible update to mail gets permanent and agonizing hemorrhoids so they know what this pain in the butt feels like. Terrible….absolutely TERRIBLE change.

these developers don’t get it. no one wants to change the way they do simple tasks.

That is incorrect. I like the new features, though I don't think they go far enough. I was a huge fan of Gmail's Inbox (RIP) and after all these years, Apple is finally adding some of the features I liked about it. Mail still doesn't manage my email as well as Spark, the email app I've been using (and paying for) for a long time. I'm hoping if the developers continue in this direction, by next year, I won't need to subscribe to Spark anymore. That would be great.

Thank God, I got back to the old presentation sometimes new isn’t better

For some users, new IS better. The new features mirror what is already available in gmail and Microsoft mail products. The difference is Apple lets you turn the features off.

I am in OS 18.3.1 on iPhone SE3 and am in list view and the mail is still using categories w colored icons. I absolutely hate it and want a way to return completely to the way it was before w no icons and NO categories. Its absolute madness. And there seems NO way to get back to the simpler old way. Please help us make this happen. Give us directions that can FIX THIS please.

Thank you.

stop playing “I need to impress my boss by improving things”. No! No you don’t.

It's not anyone needing to impress their boss. It's their boss telling them that the feedback has been tabulated and they need to add a feature people have been asking for.

However, it's a feature you don't need to use if you don't want to. Review the thread for instructions on how to disable it.
