Image Playground displays "unable to use that description" for every entry?

I have been unable to get any results from Image Playground. Regardless of text or images or pictures selected the result displays "Unable to use that description." and a yellow UNDO. I even tried to follow the example and typed in "Puppy" with the same result. What is going on?

iPhone 16, iOS 18

Image playground, genmoji and all the other Apple Intelligence features are working fine on my iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPad Pro M1 and MacBook Pro M1. Why they aren't on your device(s), we can't diagnose for you as this is a user to user only forum.

I'd recommend contacting Apple Support for direct assistance. If you're in the US, you can call Apple at: 800-MY-APPLE. You can visit an Apple Store. You can use the support button at the bottom of this page.

I have this problem as well, Apple Intelligence was turned on on my M2 Mac mini, but image playground was not returning anything. I looked at the image of the settings for Apple Intelligence and noticed that the examples here had items under the Apple Intelligence category and mine had none. So I used the customer service magic trick. I turned it off and turned it on again. It seems to have loaded something ...

but there is still no description under "Apple Intelligence" now. I wonder if it is loading something in the background and I just can't see it. I'll try again later.

One difference is that it does look like it is synched with my phone as I see a couple of images I generated on my phone in the app on my mac now. Still very strange, but if most people see Apple Intelligence details in settings , the lack of these items is probably part of the problem.

Your questions are irrelevant. Nobody could attempt to use AI and get the error OP reported unless they were in an area of the world AI is permitted. Nobody could get the error unless they successfully downloaded the app. Nobody could get the error unless they were on 18.2. Nobody could get the error unless their model of iPhone supported AI.

They are NOT irrelevant. The person I responded to said they had Image Playground, but now they don't AND they went to the App Store to look for it, but it wasn't there. My questions were perfectly appropriate for this user. Maybe check who a response was geared towards, before you come out guns blazing.

It looks like the photo library is indeed the key. I have mine on an external drive because it was taking up a lot of space on the boot drive. It kind of came disconnected but when I reconnected the library and selected it as the system library, then rebooted, playgrounds was able to render something from the built in prompts. It's an interesting dependency.

Fortunately, Image Playground is working for me. This one, "Isn't it amazing how time flies when you're having fun" I created on my new iPhone 16 ProMax. The second one, "Isn't it amazing how fun flies when you're doing time" I created on my MacMini M4.

I really like that! I've only played with it on my phone. I'll have to try it out on my Mac.
