IMovie New Version not compatible with my iMac version

I have Ventura 13.7.1 on my iMac Retina 4K 21.5 Inc, 2017. iMovie not working so I deleted and went to reinstall, but the new version of iMovie says I need Sonoma 14.6 which my iMac does not support. How can I get a version of iMovie that works with my iMac and Ventura 13.7.1. I do not have an old purchase as the old version came with the computer.

Hi,

Try the following procedure to download the highest iMovie version that your operating system will run.

To update/redownload iMovie 10, drag your iMovie 10 app from the Applications folder into the trash, but do not empty the trash. (You can skip that step if you had iMovie 10 on your computer before, but deleted it.) Sign in to the app store and open your purchases folder by clicking on your name at the bottom of the app store side bar.   You will see your purchases displayed, including iMovie 10. Redownload/update iMovie from there. If not successful, drag your present iMovie app out of the trash (if you moved it there) and return it to the Applications folder.

Well, to get the last installed version, and then try to work out

why it did not function. If 'Time Machine' was used to backup

to an external drive, it could re-introduce that copy into iMac.

For older hardware, update paths may discount newest software.

Any idea of practical backups, other than built-in Time Machine?

Foresight & due diligence, work best; to secure backups locally.

Could include sustaining backups with third-party software to an

external bootable drive; SuperDuper &/or CCCloner, work fine.

While I'm out of newer ideas; my Macs use Time Machine.
