Why am I unable to resubscribe to Apple Music?

It comes up saying cannot do that now because it want's me to redeem a trial that seems to be for new people only but no way to get round it

Can't redeem 3 months free apple music on new iPad. I have the notification in my settings that I can avail 3 months free of Apple Music but when I click accept, it just redirects me to the app, where the only trial is the one month free when subscribing for the first time. This is my first ios device, too, so I've never had a subscription before. And the trial hasn't even expired yet. Is it still possible to claim it?
