mac mini (2023) using mac OS Sequoia attached to a 2017 Dell monitor not showing desktop colors properly

To wake up the computer from sleep mode, I press a key on the keyboard. Quite frequently now, I first encounter lots of static on the monitor. After pressing a key several times, the monitor then shows my desktop but the colors are bright purple and green. I put the computer to sleep again and it usually comes back with the correct colors. Is this a problem with the mac mini/software and/or the monitor. Here are photos of the sequence.
