I tried replying to Rich839's note re "iMovie 10 - expand or contract video line….", but when I hit "post", it would not send, so I'll try this way.

Rich,

Thank you for your very clearly explained instructions. I was able to synch the sound and picture right on the money.

Next question is how to save the movie once it is done. I used: file/share/file.

I did it several times to try to figure out the correct details. Most of the time, nothing happened. Twice I got a good save as a .mp4, which I wanted. Once it saved, but as a .mov. I am wondering if it matters where on the screen was your last click before you do “share” - click on the sound line? the video line? the gray space above? the black above that? I could not tell what led to the different results.

What is the right place to click before clicking on file/share/file?

Finally, if you could recommend a beginning iMovie tutorial that is as clear as your note above, I would appreciate it. I don’t find the Apple instructions to be very edifying. They tend to not define terms or explain overview structure of iMovie before stating what actions to take.

Thanks again,

Hi, again,

Glad you were able to get you audio/video synced.

Sometimes sharing issues can be cured by deleting/resetting preferences. To delete/reset preferences, open iMovie while holding down the Option and Command keys and select to delete preferences in the box that appears. iMovie will open in a new empty library. Reopen your old library to get back to your projects. (To reopen your old library close iMovie and go to your Movie folder or wherever you have your old iMovie library stored. Double click on the library’s icon.  iMovie will open in that library.) Possibly you may need to reboot to set the changes.  Deleting preferences is a safe procedure that will not cause data loss or disruption to your project.

There is no requirement to click on anything before doing the File/Share/File procedure.

The clearest Help tutorial that I have found is Apple's online Help menu. It has a great search feature where you can search by descriptive word or topic. Here's the link:
