Bug Report: Live Loops Playback Timer Misaligned for Non-4/4 Time Signatures in Logic Pro

Summary:

In Live Loops, the playback timer does not align correctly with non-4/4 time signatures. For example, when the time signature is set to 6/8, the timer behaves as though it is interpreting the project in 9/8, causing loops and transitions to desynchronize.

This issue was reported by another user in September 2023 on the Apple Support Communities, but there has been no official response or resolution (Apple Discussions Thread Link).

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Open Logic Pro and create a new project.
  2. Set the project’s time signature in the transport bar to 6/8.
  3. Open the Live Loops grid (Command + Option + L).
  4. Add a loop or trigger playback with no loops selected.
  5. Set Bar Quantization to 1 Bar:
    • Open the Global Quantization dropdown (top-left corner of the Live Loops grid).
    • Select 1 Bar.
  1. Trigger a loop or observe the playback timer with no loops selected.

Expected Behavior:

  • The playback timer should complete one rotation per bar in the specified time signature (e.g., 6 beats for 6/8).
  • Loops should align with the bar structure when Bar Quantization is set to 1 Bar.

Actual Behavior:

  • The playback timer behaves as though locked to 9/8 or other mismatched time divisions, even though the project is set to 6/8.
  • Loops do not align with the bar structure as expected, despite setting Bar Quantization to 1 Bar.

Troubleshooting Steps Taken:

  1. Set various non-4/4 time signatures (e.g., 6/8, 5/8, 7/8) in new and existing projects.
  2. Verified time signature settings in the transport bar and project ruler.
  3. Confirmed the timer behaves correctly in 4/4, but not in other time signatures.
  4. Tested multiple loops with both Global Quantization and Clip Launch Quantization set to bar-relative values (e.g., 1 Bar).
  5. Reset Logic Pro preferences and created fresh projects.
  6. Updated Logic Pro to the latest version via the Mac App Store.

Environment:

  • Logic Pro Version: 11.0.1
  • macOS Version: 14.6.1 (23G93)
  • Hardware: MacBook M2

Additional Notes:

  • The issue only occurs in Live Loops; the main Tracks area functions as expected.
  • Timer behavior works correctly in 4/4 time signature but fails for all other time signatures.
  • A similar issue was reported in September 2023 on the Apple Support Communities, but no response or resolution has been provided.

Request:

Please investigate this issue in the Live Loops playback timer for non-4/4 time signatures. A fix or workaround would be greatly appreciated, as this impacts the usability of Live Loops for projects requiring any time signatures other than 4/4.
