Security keys not working on IPad for apple account

Does iOS have an issue at the moment with security keys?

My fairly new yubikey’s are not working on my iPad to sign me into my apple account after a restore from backup. It keeps saying pin is wrong. I tested the key on a Microsoft computer and it seems to work ok, changed the FIDO PIN successfully via windows.


I’ll do some more testing with other accounts, anyone else experiencing this?

iPad Pro, iPadOS 18

Report this to Apple:

I have not seen any reports of this. It may be a bug. Question is: "Just how many people have actually reported it to Apple?"


So, do your Part: Provide Apple with feedback on this, letting them know about this issue.  Apple may not get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what is occurring, and what bug fixes to include in updates to come. Apple will know nothing of you occurrences, if you don't report it to them.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - iPhone - Apple
  2. Select: "Bug Report" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Comment: on when this issue began, and how you have troubleshot it, thus far. Include the URL of this thread
  4. Proceed from there as necessary

It is a known issue introduced in iOS 18.1. The topic is discussed in the troubleshooting section of Yubico : Safari 18.1 upgrade [MacOS / iOS / iPadOS] FIDO PIN issue with FIDO CTAP 2.1 security keys The issue is reproduced by Yubico, Apple is working on it.
