Why do I have to double tap everything on my iPad?

I have an iPad 9th generation. iPadOS 18.1.1. Issue has been going on for a long time. It’s not an apple only issue since this happens on my Samsung galaxy a53 too. I’m not sure if it’s a bug or me not tapping it properly, but at this point it just feels like a bug honestly. Is anyone else experiencing this issue? I’ve looked on Google and everything is talking about VoiceOver but as far as I know I don’t have that switched on.

Some users just have difficulty using touch-sensitive screens - and/or TouchID sensors. The potential causes for are many; whilst not an exhaustive list, possibilities include:

  • Very high humidity (“sweaty” fingers)
  • Very low humidity (excessively dry skin)
  • Poor fingerprint ridge-detail (excessive hand washing - or exposure to abrasive material, damaging fingerprint detail)
  • Physical injury (cuts or splits to the fingertip)

If you have naturally dry skin, try using a “light” (non greasy) and easily absorbed skin moisturiser.

Should your difficulties persist, you might be best advised to visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) where you can (a) demonstrate the issue, and (b) the technicians will be able to test and assess your iPad:
