Unable to specify personal Reminders list on HomePod

I use a couple of HomePod Minis in the household with a shared Grocery list. When we started using it a couple of years back we noticed we had to specify the list when adding an item such as "Add milk to the Grocery list", just saying "Remind me to buy milk" would add it to the personal Reminders list for the person speaking.

However now whenever I say something like "Remind me to pay bills" this goes to the last specified/used list which is usually a Shared list (we have a couple of shared lists that we use with the HomePod) and there is no way to have the HomePod add the item to my personal Reminders list even though we have Personal requests turned on.

This seems like updates are making HomePod functionality regress which is really not the expectation with such a product.
