Only the person that lost the AirPods can provide any information that would be seen when you hold them up to an iPhone. Most choose not to as it also opens them up to scams and phishing messages. There is nothing you can do to locate the owner. They are able to still track the AirPods, so they know where they are. It is best to leave them in a neutral location such as a police station or local lost and found.
